Easter Holidays

Journey into Easter with Chidren

Attached is a useful information pack designed to support parents and families during this tricky time, which will hopefully make things easier.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading. School to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend. The fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society.

 

We will continue to provide care for a limited number of children – those who are vulnerable and children whose parents are critical to the Covid-19 response and cannot be safely cared for at home.

 

Vulnerable children include children who are supported by social care, those with safeguarding and welfare needs, including child in need plans, on child protection plans, ‘looked after’ children, young carers, disabled children and those with education, health and care (EHC) plans.

 

Parents whose work is critical to the COVID-19 response include those who work in health and social care and in other key sectors outlined below. Many parents working in these sectors may be able to ensure their child is kept at home. And every child who can be safely cared for at home should be.

 

Please, therefore, follow these key principles:

If it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they should be.

If a child needs specialist support, is vulnerable or has a parent who is a critical worker, then educational provision will be available for them.

Parents should not rely for childcare upon those who are advised to be in the stringent social distancing category such as grandparents, friends, or family members with underlying conditions.

Parents should also do everything they can to ensure children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue to spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as adults.

Residential special schools, boarding schools and special settings continue to care for children wherever possible.

If your work is critical to the COVID-19 response, or you work in one of the critical sectors listed below, and you cannot keep your child safe at home then your children will be prioritised for education provision:

Health and social care

This includes but is not limited to doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, social workers, care workers, and other frontline health and social care staff including volunteers; the support and specialist staff required to maintain the UK’s health and social care sector; those working as part of the health and social care supply chain, including producers and distributers of medicines and medical and personal protective equipment.

Education and childcare

This includes nursery and teaching staff, social workers and those specialist education professionals who must remain active during the COVID-19 response to deliver this approach.

Key public services

This includes those essential to the running of the justice system, religious staff, charities and workers delivering key frontline services, those responsible for the management of the deceased, and journalists and broadcasters who are providing public service broadcasting.

Local and national government

This only includes those administrative occupations essential to the effective delivery of the COVID-19 response or delivering essential public services such as the payment of benefits, including in government agencies and arm’s length bodies.

Food and other necessary goods

This includes those involved in food production, processing, distribution, sale and delivery as well as those essential to the provision of other key goods (for example hygienic and veterinary medicines).

Public safety and national security

This includes police and support staff, Ministry of Defence civilians, contractor and armed forces personnel (those critical to the delivery of key defence and national security outputs and essential to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic), fire and rescue service employees (including support staff), National Crime Agency staff, those maintaining border security, prison and probation staff and other national security roles, including those overseas.

Transport

This includes those who will keep the air, water, road and rail passenger and freight transport modes operating during the COVID-19 response, including those working on transport systems through which supply chains pass.

Utilities, communication and financial services

This includes staff needed for essential financial services provision (including but not limited to workers in banks, building societies and financial market infrastructure), the oil, gas, electricity and water sectors (including sewerage), information technology and data infrastructure sector and primary industry supplies to continue during the COVID-19 response, as well as key staff working in the civil nuclear, chemicals, telecommunications (including but not limited to network operations, field engineering, call centre staff, IT and data infrastructure, 999 and 111 critical services), postal services and delivery, payments providers and waste disposal sectors.

Latest Information regarding Coronavirus

|
  • If you live alone and you have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), however mild, stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started.

 

  • If you live with others and you or another member of the household have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill. It is likely that people living within a household will infect each other or be infected already. Staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community.

 

  • For anyone in the household who starts displaying symptoms, they need to stay at home for 7 days from when the symptoms appeared, regardless of what day they are on in the original 14-day isolation period.

The symptoms are:

  • A high temperature (37.8 degrees and above)
  • A new, continuous cough

Our St Peter's School Promise...

On Thursday 21st November we had our statutory inspection of our church school. We are delighted to share the attached inspectors findings . We received an excellent overall judgement, with two additional excellent judgements for the impact of collective worship and the effectiveness of Religious Education. Thank you to all parents and carers in the role you all play in making St Peter's a very special school.  

Bethany Children's Choir

On the 20th November 2019 we welcomed the Bethany Family into our school. The Bethany Project is a children's home and school in Tanzania. The children in the family were once either orphaned, abandoned or abused and many have suffered traumatic experiences. 

The Bethany Children's Choir are currently travelling around locally to bring an awareness of living conditions, cultural difference and poverty in Tanzania. They have sung and danced for us, as well as talking about their experiences and answering our questions. 

We loved that the children's moto, that they live by in the children's home is 'love one another' which is close to our hearts at St Peter's.  We recognise that ever person in our school has been made in the image of God and is loved unconditionally by God which is why we love one another and serve others as Jesus did. 

For the third year running we've done it again!

Remembrance Service 2019

|

On Monday the 11th November 2019 the children and the staff of St Peter's C of E Primary School commemorated Armistice Day with a service lead by Year 6 pupils in St Peter's Church grounds. Prior to the service the children had made poppies from recycled plastic bottles to decorate the trees in the Church yard making a wonderful and symbolic outdoor display of Remembrance. 

Celebrating Diversity with Lazy Mondays

On Monday 30th September 2019 we welcomed children from seven different local primary schools to
St Peters to work with us. With the guidance of the band Lazy Mondays the children composed and performed a song which celebrated their  unique differences and similiarities. The children showed a willingness to listen to to each other and valued each others ideas. Listen to their song. It is fabulous. 


Speak Out, Stay Safe

We enjoyed listening to the NSPCC Buddy's message to 'Speak Out and Stay Safe' on the 7th October 2019. We wore non uniform and helped to raise £165 for the NSPCC charity.

Speak out Stay safe is a session available to all primary schools in the UK. It aims to equip a generation of children with the knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse and neglect. Children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a trusted adult or Childline.

Bunny Hop

Well done to everybody for taking part in the Bunny Hop to raise money for Pendleside Hospice this week. We raised an amazing £992.81!  Well done too to Hamza in Red Class for raising the most money and winning the Easter egg!

Book Aid International

|

Our fund raising on World Book Day raised a total of £120.50, thank you to all those who visited the cake sale in school and brought books in to swap. All money raised will be donated to Book Aid International, every £2 sends another book around the world to the thousands of people who don’t have the books they need.

We encourage our families to think about using more sustainable ways of travelling to and from school each day.

By walking, cycling, scooting and using public transport, you can help to keep yourself and your children, healthier and fitter, as well as making your journeys to school kinder to the environment. This will also help to reduce parking issues and help to make the area outside school a safer place to be.

On the map we have indicated the streets that are 5 minutes walk away from school, please have a look and see if you can park and walk.

Burnley Football Club Manager & Player Visit

|

We welcomed two very special visitors to our school. Burnley FC's Manager Sean Dyche and club Captain Jack Cork. The children participated in a PE lesson alongside both Jack Cork and Sean Dyche who joined them in the activities and offered the children expert advice. At the end of the session Laiqa (Year 6) was given a prize for demonstrating the value of fairness. She will be attending the last Burnely FC home game as the referees mascot!

It was a fantastic afternoon and one the children will never forget!

The Railway Project

Year 6 participated in an Art Project in which they collaborated with the Community Railway to improve Burnley Central Station. The project aimed to make the station more colourful and bright and bring to life the dull station. Year 6 were project managed by Daisy , from the Community Railway  and worked with  artist Alistair. We visited Burnley Central Station and caught the train to Preston Station, learnt about languages and trains before putting all this together in some art work. Staff from Manchester University helped us with the project. The work was all put together in a digital art project which is displayed in Burnley Central Station.

Internet Safety

Thank you to all the parents who attended internet safety events in each year group. The focus throughout the school was based on sharing photos and images online. Classes provided different activities, presentations and a quiz for parents and children to participate in.

Burnley school in nation’s 100 ‘top performing’

St Peter’s Church of England Primary School is among the 100 top peforming schools in the country – and it was a new year boost when they received a letter from the Department of Education recognising this.

Minister of State for Schools Nick Gibb said the Church Street school is in the top 100 in terms of progress their pupils make between Key Stage One and the end of Key Stage Two.

Mr Gibb said in his letter addressed to Head Teacher Catherine Greenwood: “Thank you for your work in continuing to drive towards high standards of educational achievement and congratulations again to you and your staff for your hard work and professionalism.”

Mrs Greenwood has been in charge at St Peter’s for five years and said it was a welcome surprise to receive the letter as they came back from their Christmas break.

“It was lovely to receive it and we are all so proud – we knew we had done well but we didn’t expect to be in the top 100 schools in the country,” said Mrs Greenwood, who has 193 pupils at St Peter’s. “We have a saying: ‘if you can’t do something, you just can’t do it yet’ and we encourage our pupils not to give up.

“Both the staff and the pupils work a lot on growth mindset and it’s about making them realise that people improve through hard work, effort and determination.

"It’s about making them realise that people improve through hard work, effort and determination"

Headteacher

“It’s about making pupils more resilient in their learning and that it is fine to make a mistake, as long as you learn from it. It’s also about learning from each other’s successess as well. It’s lovely to have this recognition. The pupils and staff are all proud.”

Mr Gibb, in his letter, stated: “I am writing to congratulate you, your staff and your pupils for the progress your children are making.

“We want to ensure that every child progresses to the very best of their ability in reading, writing and mathematics so they have fluency in these subjects to enable them to succeed at secondary school and beyond.

“Your school is clearly putting great effort into achieving this.”
