Intent, Implementation & Impact

INTENT

 

At St Peter’s C of E Primary School ‘Every Child of God Matters’. The intent of our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum is to nurture individuals, develop self-worth and pride as well as mutual respect for each other, our school and the wider community. It enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society through developing an understanding of their rights and responsibilities in our diverse world. It covers the three key topics of Living in the Wider World, Relationships and Health and Wellbeing which ensure that our children are able to understand the moral, social and cultural challenges that they will encounter as they grow and develop. We endeavour to provide a caring, and enriching environment in which each child is encouraged to reach their full potential whilst inspiring them to develop a love for learning. 

 

IMPLEMENTATION 

 

  • To teach PSHE and citizenship in EYFS as an integral part of the curriculum. To develop children’s personal, emotional, and social development as set out in the EYFS Statutory Framework. Citizenship is addressed through ‘Understanding the World’.
  • To ensure all teachers have the required subject knowledge and content knowledge to teach PSHE effectively following the PSHE association programme builder which has been adapted to the needs of our children, supported by ‘One decision’.
  • In lessons teachers focus on developing understanding and fostering discussion in a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • To ensure all teachers have a clear understanding of age-related expectations in PSHE and build on prior knowledge.
  • To ensure the curriculum is broad and balanced by using whole class PSHE scrapbooks which cover both PSHE and RSHE lessons and weekly picture news linking to our British Values.

 

IMPACT

 

The impact of our PSHE curriculum is measured in the following ways;

  • Subject leader monitoring and feedback to governors
  • PSHE scrap books, learning walks and pupil voice
  • Parental voice through questionnaires and workshops
  • Displays and learning environments around school
  • Learning behaviours and engagement of pupils in lessons
  • Children display a caring attitude and display the skills taught within the curriculum
