Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day)

We made pancakes today as a class to celebrate Shrove Tuesday, which was during Half Term.

We learnt that pancakes are eaten on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent begins and has happened for a long time. Historically, the pancakes were to use up food in the cupboard that would perish during Lent, a time of fasting. Traditionally, pancakes are enjoyed with sugar and lemon juice, so this was how we had our pancakes. We sprinkled on a little sugar and then drizzled on a small amount of lemon juice, not too much! They were delicious!
