Summer term 1 curriculum
English
We will complete our unit on Hugo Cabret first and then the children will complete a non-fiction unit where they will create a magazine page all about Automata. After this, our next unit will focus on the famous poem ‘Jabberwocky’. We will be writing our own versions of the poem, acting it out with actions and then creating a story based on the characters and setting from the poem.
Maths
Our learning this term has the following sequence:
Week 1 – Geometry (2D and 3D shape)
Week 2 – Measurement (Volume)
Week 3 – Statistics
Week 4 – Problem solving including bar modelling.
Week 5 and 6 – Place value
Geography/History
We will finish learning about Europe and the Algarve region before moving onto our history unit which focuses on Anglo Saxons. We will use historical evidence to investigate the question – Who was buried at Sutton Hoo?
Science
The children will learn about the life cycles of a mammal, an amphibian, an insect and a bird. They will also learn about the life process of reproduction in some plants and animals.
Computing
We will complete our unit on networks before moving onto 3D modelling.
RE
Our unit this term is - St Paul - How did the news of Jesus resurrection spread around the world?
PSHE
Our first topic is looking at physical health and mental well-being. The children will learn about Healthy sleep habits; sun safety; medicines, vaccinations, immunisations and allergies.
