Owl Visit 16.10.25

Chris from SMJ Falconry came to see us this afternoon. We met 4 owls:

  1. Tyke, the Burrowing Owl. His favourite foods are worms, slugs and snails. He lives in the ground, instead of trees.
  2. JD, the Barn Owl. He flew around the classroom and landed on all our toys. We couldn't hear his wings as they flapped, he was silent as he flew. He has incredible hearing, he can even hear our hearts beating.
  3. Fluffy, the Tawny Owl. She goes 'twit-twoo' at night time. She is the biggest type of owl we get in England.
  4. Midge, the White-Faced African Owl. She has a moustache to help her feel for food.

We found out that owls have different coloured eyes. If their eyes are dark they come out at night, if their eyes are yellow they come out in the day and if their eyes are orange they come out at sunrise and sunset.

We were all very brave and held Midge, see pictures below, and then before Chris went to see Year 6 he introduced us to Eric who is a Peregrine Falcon, which are the fastest animals on earth.
