Art Week 2025

Pink class have been researching the work of Micheal Lafosse. Lafosse is most famous for his origami butterflies which he took inspiration from in the natural world. Pink Class discussed what materials and techniques Lafosse used when creating his origami butterflies and created their very own for our display. Pink Class also sculpted a deciduous tree from wire to showcase their creations!

Step one: Manipulating paper and wire

Step two: Practise making a origami butterfly

Step three: Designing a tree

Pink Class explored different kinds of deciduous trees which our tree sculptures were based on. We discussed what the word ‘deciduous’ means and explored some of the characteristics of the trees. We looked at an Oak tree, Maple tree, Elm tree, Birch tree and Beech tree. In groups, children designed one of the deciduous trees which will be sculpted with wire for our origami butterflies to hang from.

Step four: Creating a origami butterfly
