Autumn 2 2019/20
Creative homework challenge
The children had to draw or make a model of a famous structure.
British Legion Visitor
We had a visit from someone from the British Legion to tell us about their role and involvement in Remembrance Day.
Handwashing
We had a visit from the nurse to teach about about germs and how to wash our hands properly.
Fire Service Visit
We had a visit from the fire service to learn about how to stay stafe at home and what to do if there is a fire in our home. The children were asked to check at home that there is a working smoke alarm as this can save lives.
Religious Education
We read the story of the Angel's visit to the shepherds from the Bible and watch a clip. We then acted it out and wrote speech bubbles for the shepherds and angels.
Autumn Term 2
I hope everyone has enjoyed the holidays and are looking forward to the next half term. Read on to find out what we will be up to.
Maths
We will start the half term looking at 2D and 3D shapes. We will then move onto place value. We will be using number lines, partitioning numbers in different ways as well as rounding numbers to the nearest 10. We will also be counting in steps of 2, 3, and 5 and recalling multiplication facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables including recognising odd and even numbers.
Science
In Science we will be finding out what humans need to survive as well as what we need to stay healthy, covering food, exercise, hygiene and medicine.
History
In our History lessons we will be exploring poppies as a symbol of remembrance and finding out about the Christmas day truce during World War one.
RE
Our RE unit this half term is Christmas: Why was the birth of Jesus such good news? Key questions include:
- What difference did this news make to the world?
- How is this good news told today?
- What do angels look like?
- How is this good news celebrated today?
DT
In DT this half term we will be making playground structures. We will explore existing products, learn how to join materials and how to make structures more stable. We will then design and make our own playground structures.
PE
In PE we will be doing gymnastics and invasion games. We will also have a dance lesson with Helen each week.
Computing
In computing we will be doing the coding unit on purple mash. We will be learning how to create a simple computer program using simple algorithms and to debug simple programs.
PSHE
In PSHE we will be learning about caring and respectful relationships. We will learn to recognise the importance of telling someone we trust about a secret which makes us feel unsafe or uncomfortable. We will learn to recognise that body language and facial expression can give clues as to how comfortable and safe someone feels in a situation. We will also be taking part in Anti-bullying week.
