Burnley St Peter's

C of E Primary School

Autumn 2

Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn term.

Our theme this half term is Fire! Fire! Fire!

Hope you are ready for an action packed few weeks.

Take a look at what we will be doing in Yellow Class.

Read, Write Inc.

This half term we will be continuing our new programme called Read Write Inc. It teaches children to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension. They learn to form each letter, spell correctly and compose their ideas step-by-step. We will be holding a parent’s session this half term to give you some additional information about this.

Our story this term is Zog

We will learn the story of ‘Zog’ by Julia Donaldson. Zog is a dragon who goes to school to breathe fire and capture princesses.

Maths

In our maths lessons this half term we will be learning about odd and even numbers, finding half and a quarter of shapes, learning how to sort objects, shapes and numbers in different ways, measuring capacity and recognising and using coins.

History

In History we will be learning about The Great Fire of London. We will find out what London was like during this time, how the fire started, why it spread so quickly and how we know the events of this day.

RE

Our RE unit is called Gifts and Gift bringers. The aim of this unit is to deepen the children’s understanding of the true meaning of Christmas by exploring the concept of Jesus as a gift and to discuss the feelings and idea of giving and receiving.

PE

We are very lucky to be having three lessons of PE a week this half term. We will be continuing with our fundamental skills lessons, learning how to throw underarm and apply this in a game using simple tactics and having dance lessons with Helen. The children will take part in a dance performance at the end of the term.

DT

Our DT unit is 'Moving Pictures'. The children will learn about different types of mechanisms to make pictures move. They will then design and make their own moving picture for part of a story book.
