Burnley St Peter's

C of E Primary School

Summer 1

Yellow Class - Summer Term 1

Read Write Inc: Children will be assessed upon returning to school and put into reading ability groups. Pupils will do a speed sound lesson each day and read a text three times on separate occasions. The more frequently your child reads at home, the quicker they will progress through the Read, Write, Inc levels and become a fluent reader. Pupils are assessed every six weeks or more frequently if we feel they need moving on to the next level.

English: This term we will complete our information text with an author focus and we will write our very own classic story based upon Peter Rabbit whilst creating traditional rhymes as a class.

Maths: In maths, we will be moving onto measurement, addition and subtraction, fractions, geometry and time. We will then assess and review at the end of the term. Please continue to support your child at home with the homework task grids provided.

Science: In Science we will be continuing to learn about materials and their properties. We will identify and name a variety of everyday materials and describe the simple physical properties. We will also study the season of Summer.

Geography: In Geography we will begin our unit ‘Fieldwork’. We will be exploring the school grounds, using maps and atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom. We will also use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of our school and its grounds and the key physical and human features of its surrounding area.

RE: In RE, we will learn about Baptism. Yellow class will focus on why baptisms are special and their learning will deepen their understanding of what it means to belong through exploring the celebration of baptism and the ways in which people of faith welcome babies.

DT: In DT we will begin to select and use a range of tools and equipment in order to make our very own fruit salad. We will focus on food hygiene rules and the eatwell plate in preparation for following a simple recipe.

Music: In Music we will be continuing to use the Charanga Music Service. The song that we are learning this term is called Imagination.

PE: In PE we will begin our outdoor activities. We will also be using the Fundamental Movement Skills which will include kicking this term. We will also have a weekly dance lesson.

Computing: In computing we will be learning about internet safety and coding. Please continue to explore Purple Mash at home using your child’s log in which is in their reading record.

PSHE: This term our unit will be ‘Health and Wellbeing’.
