Yellow Class - Autumn Term 2
Read Write Inc: Children will be assessed upon returning to school and put into reading ability groups. Pupils will do a speed sound lesson each day and read a text three times on separate occasions. The more frequently your child reads at home, the quicker they will progress through the Read, Write, Inc levels and become a fluent reader. Pupils are assessed every six weeks or more frequently if we feel they need moving on to the next level.
English: This term we are focusing on writing a story and a poem based on a theme using the narrative ‘Supertato’. Please help your child at home by reminding them to use capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and also remind them to check that their sentences make sense by practicing them orally. We will also be learning how to write a class information book based on the Great Fire of London.
Maths: In Maths, we will begin by looking at Addition and Subtraction and 2D and 3D shape. We will also be sequencing, sorting, using fractions, capacity and volume, money and time. Please help your child at home by completing the maths homework each week which will be linked to our learning this term.
Science: In Science we will be learning about the seasonal changes in winter. We will find identify the seasons and look at seasonal changes within our environment. We will also begin to research common animals other than humans and look at their basic structure.
History: In History we will be exploring events beyond our living memory. We will be studying the Great Fire of London. We will explore how the fire began and why the fire spread so quickly and how changes were made because of the fire. We will also have a trip to the museum to find out more.
RE: In RE, we will learn about Christmas. Yellow class will focus on why we give and receive gifts at this time.
D.T: In D.T we will explore mechanisms. We will create a sliding mechanism, we will use levers to create a mechanism, we will explore wheel mechanisms and we will design and create our very own mechanism linked to our enterprise week.
Music: In Music we will be using the Charanga Music Service. We will also be learning and performing our nativity songs.
PE: In PE we will be using the Fundamental Movement Skills including catching and rolling and also underarm throwing. We will also have a weekly dance lesson. PE will continue to be on a Monday and Tuesday this term and dance will be on Friday.
Computing: In computing we will be grouping and sorting as well as exploring pictograms. Please explore Purple Mash at home using your child’s log in which is in their reading record.
PSHE: This term our unit is ‘Living in the wider world’.
