Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) 2023
Today was Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day. It is the day before Lent starts in the Christian Calendar. As it is Shrove Tuesday made pancakes in class!
In front of the whole class, with some helpers, Miss Franklin made the batter. We needed some flour, which we weighed out on the scales before tipping into a big mixing bowl. We then added some milk and eggs to the bowl. We thought that was it, but a few of us looked in the bowl and thought it didn't look quite right... because we hadn't mixed it together! So we whisked it to make a smooth batter, which we agreed looked much better and left to rest while we ate lunch.
After lunch we went in small groups to cook our pancakes, each having a turn to toss our own pancake, with adult support - the frying pan was hot. We all ate our the ‘traditional’ way with sugar and lemon juice. We squeezed the juice out of the lemons ourselves.
We loved the pancakes so much and ate them so fast, the grown ups didn't even get chance to get a photo of us enjoying them!
