Read, Write, Inc

We explored existing designs for a swing, slide and climbing frame and followed the instructions in pairs to make them
Design and Technology- Structures
In DT we are learning how to make structures. The children's first task was to work in teams to build a structure as tall as they could without it falling over using a construction kit.
Internet Safety Day
We invited parents in to join in with our learning about how to stay safe online.
Seasonal and Daily Weather
In Geography we measured the rainfall and temperature over three weeks in different areas of the yard to investigate whether it was the same or different in shaded and open spaces.
We also used the BBC weather app on the ipads to find out if the weather was the same or different on the same day in different places in the world.
Religious Education
We read the story of Jesus healing the blind man. We completed a drawing task without a blindfold and then again blindfolded to get an idea of how difficult it is for a blind person to complete simple tasks.
Spring term 1
Hello and welcome back to the Spring term. We have lots of exciting learning to look forward to this half term. Read below to find out what we will be up to.
Literacy
We will continue with the Read, Write Inc scheme to develop our reading and writing skills.
Maths
We will start the half term with place value, looking at numbers beyond 100 including rounding and partitioning. We will also be focusing on addition, subtraction and multiplication this half term.
Science
In Science this half term be taking part in the RSPB big garden bird watch to find out what birds visit our yard. We will collect and submit the data to the RSPB and discuss the results in class.
Geography
In Geography we will be learning about seasonal and daily weather patterns. We will find out more about the seasons, investigate if the weather is the same in different parts of The UK on the same day, measure temperature and rainfall in our school yard, find out about different types of cloud and think about how the weather affects our daily lives.
DT
In DT we will be continuing our unit on structures.
RE
Our RE topic this half term is called 'Jesus, friend for everyone'. We will be enjoying stories of Jesus' miracles and understanding that Jesus was an extraordinary person who welcomed everyone as a friend. Key questions include: What is a miracle? Why are these stories important? Why did Jesus welcome everyone? What do these stories reveal about Jesus?
PE
This half term we will be continuing gymnastics activities. We will also be participating in net/wall core task activities with the chance to progress to playing with a racket. We will also continue to have a weekly dance lesson.
Computing
In computing we will be learning what an algorithm is, creating simple computer programs and learning how to debug a simple program.
