Curriculum Overview Spring One

Literacy – Our novel this half term is The Wizard of Oz. We will be comparing the book to the film and analysing the use of language and specific vocabulary. We will be writing poetry, letters and diaries. We will finish the unit by writing our own version of the story.

Grammar – This half term we will be looking at pronouns, determiners, then blending action and dialogue.

Maths –This half term will focus on finding fraction, decimal and percentage equivalents. We will then move onto geometry where we will be calculating angles, finding missing angles, then calculating the area of parallelograms, rectangles and triangles. We will also be doing special session to improve our numerical reasoning abilities and working on our times table as always.

RE – Our unit this half term is The Exodus. We will be looking at the history of slavery, then analysing the story of Moses and how he, with the help from God, helped the people escape from Egypt.

Science – We will be working on light and how we see things. We will be looking at reflection, refraction and using filters.

PHSE – This half term, our focus is Relationships.  We will start by looking at friendships and what it means for a friendship to be healthy. We will also be looking at peer pressure and devising tools to help us cope with this.

History – This half term we will be exploring the history of the transatlantic slave trade. We will be looking at local connections to the practice and thinking about what drove this and what life must have been like.

Computing – This half term will start a new unit on networking. Exploring the differences between the internet and the world wide web and looking at different types of networks. Following this we will be looking at how to stay safe online.

Art – In art we will be looking at the work and techniques used by Leonardo Da Vinci.

PE – Our PE days this half term will be Monday and Tuesday. Please continue sending your child in their PE kits on these days. Some children will continue swimming with Blue and Orange Class – Mr Carr will let you know if your child is swimming and on which day.
