Number Day 2024: Fun Fractions

For Number Day 2024 we learnt about fractions. The best way for us to do this was, naturally, with cake!

We learnt on the carpet with a large cake, 'the whole', that cutting or splitting 'the whole' into two equal parts means it has been cut/split in half and if you then cut/split it again to make four equal parts it has been cut/split into quarters.

After we had learnt about fractions (1/2 and 1/4) together, we had a go independently at cutting our own cakes in half and then into quarters. We then got to eat our cakes which we all, obviously, said was the best bit.

We also applied our learning with some paper plates and pool noodles on the Maths table, matching the two halves and four quarters to make 'the whole'.

Having a go independently...

The best bit!
