Summer Term 2 2019/19
Welcome back to the final half term of the year. Find out what exciting things we will be learning about.
Literacy
In Literacy we will be reading ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl. We will explore the characters and events and then learn one of the chapters off by heart. We will then plan a new trick that Mr or Mrs Twit play and write our own chapter about this event.
Maths
In our maths lessons we will continue to practice telling the time and solving problems about time. We will practice division methods and select from grouping or sharing strategies depending on the context. We will recognise and use the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction and use this to check calculations to solve missing number problems. We will also extend our learning on length, mass and capacity.
Science
In science we will be learning about plants. The key questions we will be exploring are:
- How do plants grow?
- Where do seeds come from (i.e. inside a fruit)?
- Which part of the plant grows from the seed first?
- How do we keep plants healthy?
- What do plants need to grow healthily?
- What can we ask a garden expert?
Geography
In our geography lessons we will be learning about India. We will learn about a small area of India and compare and contrast this with where we live. We also learn to recall the continents and oceans.
RE
In RE we will be reading and discussing the stories of the Ascension and Pentecost. The key questions we will explore are:
- Why is Ascension a special celebration in the church year?
- What happened at Pentecost?
- Why is Pentecost often called the Birthday of the Church?
- How does it feel when we say goodbye?
SEAL
Our SEAL unit is called ‘changes’. We will discuss habits and how they are difficult to change and what it means when something isn’t your fault. We will make a plan to change something in our school and discuss how we might overcome obstacles. We will also talk about how we can make our own choices about our behaviour.
Computing
In computing we will be looking at how our ideas can be presented in different ways using technology. We will learn how to make an e-book, a fact file, a quiz and a presentation all based on the same story.
Art
Our Art unit is called ‘Earth Art’. We will learn how to paint on rocks, make sculptures with sticks and twigs, make animal pictures with leaves, weave with natural materials, explore ways of making mandalas (a spiritual and ritual Indian symbol) and make a collage with natural materials.
