Hello and welcome back to Summer 2. Here's some information about what we will be learning during the half term.
Read Write Inc
We will be continuing with our Read, Write Inc programme. This half term we will be continuing our Read Write Inc programme. It teaches children to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension. They learn to form each letter, spell correctly and compose their ideas step-by-step.
Maths
In Maths we will be learning about time which includes recognising and using language relating to dates, days of the week, weeks, months and years and solving practical problems for time. We will be beginning to use arrays to solve multiplication problems. We will be presenting data in different ways and sorting objects numbers and shapes.
Science
In Science we are continuing to learn about plants. We will be planting different seeds and seeing where they grow best. We will also be doing a selection of scientific investigations linked to plants.
Art
Our Art week will begin week commencing 28th June. The theme for Art week is Around the World. Each class has been given and country and an artist to research.
Geography
In Geography we will be learning about the United Kingdom, the countries that are part of it and the capital cities. We will learn information about each country such as traditions, landmarks, the flag, etc.
DT
In DT we will be continuing to learn how to make a puppet and the skills involved with that.
Music
In Music we are doing another unit of the ‘Charanga’ units of work from the Lancashire Music Service. This Unit of Work is called ‘Reflect, Rewind and Replay’ and it consolidates the learning that has occurred during the year. All the learning is focused around revisiting songs and musical activities, a context for the History of Music and the beginnings of the Language of Music.
Computing
In Computing we will be learning some new skills and practising skills taught this year. Each lesson this half term will be linked to other areas of the curriculum. We will be using a recording app to make a puppet show of different characters, we will be using a paint app to draw paintings of plants and create pictures using the pointillism technique. We will be collecting data and putting it on a graph and controlling a bee bot round a map.
PSHE
Our PSHE unit is ‘Health and wellbeing’. We will be looking at what makes us unique and special; feelings and managing when things go wrong. How rules and age restrictions help us and keeping safe online.
RE
PE
PE is on a Tuesday and a Friday. In PE, we will develop basic game-playing skills, in particular throwing and catching. We will play games based on net games and striking and fielding games. We will also explore running, jumping and throwing activities, and take part in simple challenges and competitions. Then experiment with different ways of travelling, throwing and jumping.
