The Curriculum at St Peter's C of E Primary School
Reading Intent
At St Peter’s C of E Primary School every child of God matters.
We strive to provide a high quality, effective and engaging education in reading where children have the opportunity to be fluent, confident and passionate readers who are able to successfully comprehend a range of texts. We believe reading is an essential life skill and are committed to fostering a love of reading for pleasure, to enable our pupils to become life-long readers where they can understand and appreciate the world around them, explore new ideas and develop a better understanding of other cultures and experiences. We understand the importance of parents and carers in supporting their children to read, and so we encourage a home-school partnership.
Writing Intent
At St Peter’s C of E Primary School, ‘Every Child of God Matters’.
We strive to provide a high quality, effective and engaging curriculum, which will ensure pupils can write confidently and fluently in order to express their thoughts and ideas clearly, coherently and creatively. We intend to create writers who can re-read, edit and improve their own writing, and enable pupils to confidently use the essential skills of grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Our aim is to inspire a love of writing through exposure to exciting, stimulating texts, resources and visual literacy that ensure the progressive development of knowledge and skills and an appreciation of our rich and varied language heritage.
We believe that all pupils should be encouraged to take pride in the presentation of their writing, in part by developing a good, joined, handwriting style by the time they move to secondary school.
