Black History Month
For Black History Month Yellow class read the story of Elma the elephant. In the story Elma tried to change because of how he looked but by the end of the story he realised that he enjoyed being different and it made him unique. We talked about celebrating differences and compared ourselves to our peers. We decided to work together to celebrate our differences to create animals that were unique. We liked the fact that all of the animals were unique just like us.
During story time, we also listened to stories about exceptional men and bold women in Black History. We decided to draw and colour pictures of some of the inspirational people we learned about.
The key message from our learning was: We are all different and that's ok.
