Art Week 2022

Week Beginning: 4th July 2022

During Summer Term 2 we have been studying the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky. We looked some of his paintings and then focused on one of his most famous works: Colour Study: Squares with Concentric Circles. 

We decided to create our own Kandinsky inspired paintings for Art Week in the whole school theme of ‘The Four Elements’. We started by creating one section using tissue paper already in the shape or squares and circles. Then we drew around objects to create the circles ourselves and coloured them in. And then for our final piece we collectively agreed on the colours we think represented the four elements and then learnt how we can create those colours ourselves using only the primary colours, black and white. We recalled prior knowledge of colour mixing and learnt the new skill of mixing shades of colours using black and white. We each drew our own circles and mixed the colours ourselves for our four element sections and then these were used to create a big whole class collaborative piece for the Art Exhibition.
