Pink Class - Autumn 1 Overview
Read Write Inc: Children will be assessed upon returning to school and put into reading ability groups. Pupils will do a speed sound lesson each day and read a text three times on separate occasions. The more frequently your child reads at home, the quicker they will progress through the Read, Write, Inc levels and become a fluent reader. Pupils are assessed every six weeks or more frequently if we feel they need moving on to the next level.
English: This term we are focusing on poetry and story writing based on the text ‘Harry the Happy Mouse’.
Maths: In Maths, we will start by looking at Number and Place Value. We will move onto Length and Mass/Weight. Next, we will look at Addition and Subtraction and finally we will look at 2D and 3D shape.
Science: In Science we will be learning about living things and their habitats. We will find out about different types of habitats and what lives there. We will look at micro habitats in our school grounds and we will learn about food chains. We will also look at the season of Autumn.
Geography: In Geography, we will be comparing the town of Burnley with the village of Barley. We will be going on a trip at the end of the term to Barley to explore the village. Before we go to Barley, we will be discovering the features of a village using photos and maps. Also, we will be doing a traffic survey, where we will compare how the traffic in Burnley and Barley are different.
RE: In RE, we will learn about the Christian Holy Book, the Bible and what this means to Christians. We will then look at different Holy Books that belong to other faiths and discuss their similarities and differences.
Art: In Art we will explore the work of Henry Rousseau and create pictures in the same style as his work using drawing and painting.
Music: In Music we will be using the Charanga Music Service. Our song is called ‘Hands, feet and heart’.
PE: In PE we will do one lesson a week on invasion games and another on the Fundamental Movement Skills. We will also have a weekly dance lesson.
Computing: In computing we will be using ‘2paint’ to create pictures in different artist styles such as Impressionism and Pointillism.
PSHE: This term our unit is ‘Living in the wider world’.
