NSPCC Number Day 03.02.23

For NSPCC Number Day 2023 our school focus was 'Fractions'. In Red Class we were concentrating on dividing an object into two equal parts, in half. We used a chocolate cake as a whole class to grasp the concept of dividing something to make two halves. We were confident with this, so also touched on dividing something into 4 equal parts, quarters. 

After learning that dividing something equally into two parts meant we had split it in half, we practised on our own mini cupcakes, cutting them in half... and of course, we got to eat them afterwards! 

When we had all had a practise cutting the real cakes in half, some of us then chose to represent our learning by cutting images of a cupcake in half and sticking it down to show the two equal parts.
